Assam Medical College, the first medical college in the northeastern 
region of India, was established on August 3, 1947. It is located in 
Dibrugarh, Assam. The college was founded by Sir John Berry White, who 
was a British philanthropist and a prominent tea planter in Assam. Assam
 Medical College has played a crucial role in medical education and 
healthcare in the northeastern part of India. It has contributed 
significantly to the training of medical professionals and the provision
 of healthcare services in the region.
