Cricket was featured only once in the Olympic Games, during the 1900 Paris Olympics. The match was played between teams from Great Britain and France. However, the French team was largely composed of British expatriates, and the British team represented the Devon and Somerset Wanderers, a club team rather than a national selection.
The match was a two-day event held at the Vélodrome de Vincennes on 19 August and 20 August 1900. Great Britain won the match by 158 runs. Cricket was intended to be included in the first modern Olympics in 1896, but the competition was canceled due to a lack of participants.
After 1900, cricket was dropped from the Olympic program, making this the only time the sport has been part of the Games. Despite its brief appearance, the 1900 cricket match remains a unique footnote in both Olympic and cricket history.
The reason behind display of above cover is as it is cricket special cover with an Olympic stamp.
