Ratan Tata, born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai, is an iconic Indian industrialist and philanthropist. He is the former chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Group, one of India's largest and oldest conglomerates. A graduate of Cornell University with a degree in architecture and structural engineering, Tata also completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
He became chairman of Tata Sons in 1991 and led the group to global prominence, overseeing major acquisitions such as Tetley (UK), Jaguar Land Rover (UK), and Corus (Netherlands). Under his leadership, Tata Motors developed the Tata Nano, the world’s most affordable car.
Tata stepped down as chairman of Tata Sons in 2012, passing on the leadership, though he remains an influential figure in the company as Chairman Emeritus. Beyond business, he is deeply involved in philanthropic activities, particularly in education, rural development, and health. He received numerous accolades, including India's second-highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan, in 2008.
