Heike Kamerlingh Onnes, a Dutch physicist, passed away on 21 February 1926. He was known for his pioneering work in low-temperature physics and, most notably, for the discovery of superconductivity in 1911. Onnes was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1913 for his contributions to the understanding of the behavior of matter at low temperatures and the production of liquid helium.
