National Nutrition Week in India is observed annually from September 1 to September 7. The week is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of nutrition, healthy eating habits, and the role of a balanced diet in maintaining overall health. It was first launched by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in 1982 to address and combat malnutrition and its associated health issues across the country.
During National Nutrition Week, various programs, campaigns, and activities are organized by government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and educational institutions to educate people about the significance of proper nutrition, especially for vulnerable groups like children, pregnant women, and the elderly. The week serves as a platform to promote healthy lifestyles, encourage dietary changes, and reduce the prevalence of malnutrition-related diseases in India.
