11 May - National Technology Day

 


 

National Technology Day is an observance celebrated in several countries to commemorate and appreciate the achievements and contributions made by scientists, engineers, and technologists in the field of technology. While different countries may have their own designated dates, the most commonly known National Technology Day is celebrated in India on May 11th each year.

In India, National Technology Day is celebrated to honor the successful nuclear tests carried out on May 11th, 1998, at Pokhran, Rajasthan. These tests, codenamed Pokhran-II, demonstrated India's nuclear capabilities and marked a significant milestone in the country's technological advancements. The day serves as a reminder of the nation's achievements in science and technology and highlights the importance of technological innovation for national development.

On National Technology Day in India, various events and activities are organized to showcase technological advancements across different sectors. These may include exhibitions, seminars, conferences, panel discussions, workshops, and award ceremonies. The day also provides an opportunity for scientists, engineers, and technologists to interact with students, educators, and the general public, fostering an appreciation for science and technology.

21 May - International Tea Day

The International Tea Day aims to raise awareness of the long history and the deep cultural and economic significance of tea around the world. The goal of the day is to promote and foster collective actions to implement activities in favour of the sustainable production and consumption of tea and raise awareness of its importance in fighting hunger and poverty.

25 June - 1983 World Cup (Prudential Cup) Finals in 1983



The final of the 1983 Prudential Cup was played between India and West Indies at Lord's on 25 June 1983. This was the third consecutive World Cup final appearance for West Indies. India playing their first finals defeated the West Indies to claim the title. It was the first World Cup win for India.

The match was the third consecutive World Cup final hosted at Lord's, following those in 1975 and 1979.

India was making their first appearance at a World Cup final after defeating England by 6 wickets in the first semi-finals. This was also the first appearance by an Asian nation in a World Cup final.


West Indies reached a third consecutive final after defeating Pakistan by 8 wickets runs in the second semi-final. Previously, they had won finals in 1975 and 1979.


June 23 - Rath Yatra in 2020

Ratha Yatra is a Hindu festival associated with Lord Jagannath held at Puri in the state of Odisha, India. It is the oldest Ratha Yatra taking place in India and the World, whose descriptions can be found in Brahma Purana, Padma Purana, and Skanda Purana and Kapila Samhita.


This annual festival is celebrated on Ashadha Shukla Paksha Dwitiya (second day in bright fortnight of Ashadha month).

The festival commemorates Jagannath's annual visit to Gundicha Temple via Mausi Maa Temple (maternal aunt's home) near Saradha Bali, Puri.

As part of Ratha Yatra, the deities Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Lord Balabhadra and younger sister Devi Subhadra, along with Sudarshan, are taken out in a procession out of the main shrine of Jagannath Temple and placed in the Ratha (Chariot) which are ready in front of the Temple. This process is called as 'Pahandi'. The procession starts with 'Madan Mohan' then 'Sudarshana' Balabhadra, Subhadra, and Jagannath Deva.

15 June - All-India Congress Accepts British Plan for Partition of India in New Delhi in 1947

On June 15th 1947, the All-India Congress accepted the British plan for the partition of India in New Delhi. The plan for the Partition, also known as the Mountbatten Plan was declared by the last Viceroy of India, Lord Mountbatten.
It called for each dominion to be granted its independence by Aug. 15 of that year.


The partition of India in August 1947 is no doubt one of the most tragic and violent events the subcontinent has witnessed in recent history. British India was partitioned on the basis of religious demographics which went on to create the Sovereign Sates of the Dominion of Pakistan and the Union of India (later the Republic of India). The Dominion of Pakistan (which was created as a homeland for Indian Muslims) was later further divided into the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.





13 June : Duleepsinhji Born

Duleepsinhji usually referred to as Kumar Shri Duleepsinhji or K. S. Duleepsinhji (13 June 1905 (Sarodar, Kathiawar, India) – 05 December 1959 (Bombay (now Mumbai)) was a cricketer who played for England. He was educated at the Rajkumar College, Rajkot, India and Cheltenham College, Gloucestershire, England.

Facts :

1.Duleep was born in a Royal family of Saurashtra and was the nephew of KS Ranjitsinhji.
2.He moved to England in the early 1920s as a teenager and first played for Cheltanham College in 1921.
3.In subsequent years, Duleep made a name for himself as a batsman.  He also used to bowl good leg-spin.
4.In 1932, India toured England, which featured it’s first-ever Test. Duleep continued to play county cricket and even represented Sussex against India. He captained Sussex in that game at the Hove in 1932, scoring seven in his only innings, dismissed leg-before by Nazir Ali.
5.The Duleep Trophy, instituted in his memory, is a regular feature in India’s domestic calendar. It is contested between the different zones and is a First-Class event.

10 June - Prakash Padukone

Prakash Padukone (born 10 June 1955) is a former Indian badminton player. He was ranked World No. 1 in 1980; the same year he became the first Indian to win the All England Open Badminton Championships. He was awarded the Arjuna award in 1972 and the Padma Shri in 1982 by the Government of India.[3] He is one of the co-founders of Olympic Gold Quest, a foundation dedicated to the promotion of Olympic sports in India.




Padukone was born on 10 June 1955 in Padukone village near Kundapura, Udupi. His father, Ramesh, was a secretary of the Mysore Badminton Association.

Padukone married Ujjala, as arranged by their parents in the Indian Hindu system.He has two daughters, Deepika and Anisha.
