He served as the second Prime Minister of India. Shastriji succeeded
Jawaharlal Nehru and held the office from June 9, 1964, until his
untimely death on January 11, 1966. During his tenure, Lal Bahadur
Shastri played a significant role in India's progress, including his
leadership during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965. Shastri's slogan "Jai
Jawan Jai Kisan" (Hail the Soldier, Hail the Farmer) became widely
popular and continues to be remembered in Indian political history.
