Morocco gained independence from France on 02 March 1956. On this date, France officially recognized the independence of Morocco, ending the period of French protectorate that had been in place since the signing of the Treaty of Fes in 1912.
The negotiations leading to Morocco's independence were complex, and the process involved diplomatic discussions between the French and Moroccan governments. Sultan Mohammed V played a significant role in these negotiations. Upon independence, Mohammed V became the king of Morocco.
