The Atomium is a unique modernist building located in Brussels, Belgium. It was built for the 1958 World Exposition, also known as Expo 58, which was held in Brussels to showcase the achievements of modern science, technology, and culture. Designed by the Belgian engineer André Waterkeyn, the Atomium consists of nine interconnected steel spheres, representing the atoms of an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times. The spheres are connected by escalators and tunnels, and the building stands at a height of 102 meters. On 16 April 2008, Google celebrated 50th anniversary of the Atomium with a doodle.
It was completely built on 17 April 1958.
