20 March - The Mahad Satyagraha took place in 1927

The Mahad Satyagraha led by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar took place on March 20, 1927. It was a pivotal event in the struggle for the rights of Dalits (formerly known as untouchables) in India. The Satyagraha aimed to challenge the caste-based discrimination prevalent in society by demanding access to public water sources for Dalits. Dr. Ambedkar and his followers marched to the Chavadar Tank in Mahad and performed a symbolic act of drinking water from it, thereby defying the social norms that denied Dalits access to such facilities. The Mahad Satyagraha remains a significant milestone in the fight against caste-based discrimination and for social justice in India.
