Georgia, located in the southeastern region of the United States, was
one of the original thirteen colonies and became the fourth state
to join the Union on 02 January 1788. It is bordered by Florida to the
south, Alabama to the west, Tennessee and North Carolina to the north,
and South Carolina to the east. The state's capital and largest city is
Atlanta. Georgia has a diverse geography, including mountains, coastal
areas, and rolling hills, and it has played a significant role in
American history and culture. The state is named after King George II of Great Britain.
