25 July - World Drowning Prevention Day

World Drowning Prevention Day is observed on July 25th each year. It was established by the United Nations (UN) to raise awareness about the importance of drowning prevention and to promote water safety measures.

Drowning is a significant global public health issue, especially for children. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), drowning claims the lives of over 360,000 people worldwide each year, making it a leading cause of unintentional death. Children are particularly vulnerable, and drowning is one of the leading causes of death among children aged 1-14 years.

World Drowning Prevention Day aims to highlight the importance of water safety education, swimming lessons, and proper supervision, especially for children. It also encourages governments, organizations, communities, and individuals to take action to prevent drowning incidents and reduce the number of preventable deaths.

Through awareness campaigns, educational programs, and advocacy efforts, the goal is to increase understanding about drowning risks and prevention strategies, ultimately saving lives and ensuring safer access to water resources.
