01 May - International Workers’ Day / International Labor Day

International Workers' Day, also known as Labour Day or May Day, is celebrated on May 1st each year. It's a day dedicated to honoring the contributions of workers around the world and advocating for workers' rights and labor movements.

The origins of International Workers' Day can be traced back to the late 19th century when labor movements in the United States and other countries campaigned for better working conditions, including the establishment of an eight-hour workday. One significant event that contributed to the recognition of May 1st as International Workers' Day was the Haymarket affair in Chicago in 1886, where a labor demonstration turned violent, resulting in several deaths and injuries.

Since then, International Workers' Day has been observed as a day of protest, rallies, and demonstrations to demand fair wages, improved working conditions, and other labor rights. It's also a day to celebrate the achievements and contributions of workers to society.

Many countries around the world recognize International Workers' Day as a public holiday, with various events and activities organized by labor unions, workers' organizations, and social movements to highlight the importance of workers' rights and social justice.
