07 November - C.V. Raman birth anniversary

Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, commonly known as C.V. Raman, was an Indian physicist born on November 07, 1888, in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, India, and he passed away on 21 November 1970, in Bangalore, India. He is renowned for his groundbreaking work in the field of optics and, in particular, for the discovery of the "Raman Effect," which had a profound impact on the study of light and the behavior of matter at the atomic and molecular level.

Raman's work in spectroscopy led to the discovery of the Raman Effect in 1928, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930. The Raman Effect is a phenomenon where light scattered by a substance contains shifted frequencies, providing insights into the molecular composition and structure of matter. This discovery revolutionized the field of spectroscopy and had significant applications in various scientific and industrial fields.

C.V. Raman made significant contributions to science and education in India and served as the first Indian to hold the position of Director at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. He received numerous awards and honors during his lifetime for his exceptional contributions to science, including the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award.

Raman's work remains influential in the fields of physics and chemistry, and he is remembered as one of India's most distinguished scientists. His legacy continues to inspire future generations of scientists and researchers.
