05 January - Amelia Earhart declared dead

In 1921, Amelia Earhart began taking flying lessons and worked odd jobs to fund her passion for aviation. She set several records and achieved numerous aviation "firsts" during her career. Some of her notable accomplishments include:

Unfortunately, Amelia Earhart's final flight attempt ended in tragedy. On July 2, 1937, while attempting to circumnavigate the globe by air, she disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean near Howland Island. Despite extensive search efforts, neither Amelia Earhart nor her plane were ever found. She was declared dead on 05 January 1939.

05 January - Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi birth anniversary

 


Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, also known as Tiger Pataudi, was an Indian cricketer and one of the country's most successful cricket captains. He was born on 05 January 1941, in Bhopal, British India. Pataudi played as a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium bowler. He made his Test debut for India at the age of 21 in 1961.

Pataudi captained the Indian cricket team in 40 Test matches, making him the youngest captain in the history of Indian cricket at the time, as he took over the captaincy at the age of 21. Despite losing vision in one eye due to an injury, he continued to play cricket at the highest level.

Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi married Bollywood actress Sharmila Tagore, and their son, Saif Ali Khan, later became a well-known actor in the Indian film industry.

Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi passed away on 22 September 2011, at the age of 70. His contributions to Indian cricket and his legacy as a captain and player are remembered in the history of the sport in India.

Shah Jahan was the fifth ruler of the Mughal Empire in India, born on 05 January 1592, in Lahore, present-day Pakistan. His birth name was Khurram. He was the son of Emperor Jahangir and the grandson of Akbar the Great. Shah Jahan became the Mughal emperor in 1628 after a series of power struggles within the royal family.

One of the most notable aspects of Shah Jahan's reign was his deep love for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. When she died during childbirth in 1631, Shah Jahan was grief-stricken and commissioned the construction of the Taj Mahal as a mausoleum to honor her memory.

Shah Jahan ruled for about 30 years but faced challenges from his own sons. In 1658, he was deposed and imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb. Shah Jahan spent the last years of his life in captivity, gazing at the Taj Mahal from the Agra Fort, where he died on 22 January 1666.

Kesari (Marathi: केसरी Sanskrit for lion) is a Marathi newspaper which was founded on 04 January 1881 by Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, a prominent leader of the Indian Independence movement. The newspaper was used as a spokes piece for the Indian national freedom movement, and continues to be published by the Kesari Maratha Trust and Tilak's descendants.

Bal Gangadhar Tilak used to run his two newspapers, Kesari, in Marathi and Mahratta (Run by Kesari-Maratha Trust) in English from Kesari Wada, Narayan Peth, Pune. The newspapers were originally started as a co-operative by Chiplunkar, Agarkar and Tilak.
